Eid-ul-Zuha or Eid-ul-Adha is substitute for Bakri Eid. This is one of the most awaited festivals for all Muslims. An importance element of this festival is sacrificing animal. The main reason to celebrate Bakri Eid, is because Ibrahim (one of the prophets) willingly offered his son as a gratitude of sacrifice at God’s command. That’s the reason, why on this occasion animals are scarified as an offering to the almighty. Bakri Eid is celebrated with great fun and enthusiasm amongst Muslims. People visit mosques and offer special prayers for peace and happiness to all. After the prayers, sacrifices begin. People also meet relatives, exchange gifts and share delicacies. Importance of Bakri Eid and Ibrahim’s believe in Allah
The mythological story of this festival dates back to Ibrahim times. In deep sleep, Prophet Ibrahim dreamt God commanding him to sacrifice his dearest and nearest son just to check his faith in him. Ibrahim soon decided to sacrifice his only loved son, who was just 13 year old. However, considering it the command of God, he took him to altar to sacrifice him. By that time he heard Allah calling him and saying he has passed his test of devotion and he need not sacrifice his son. Then God ordered him to sacrifice a lamb from the nearby bushes instead of his son.
‘Qurbani’
On Bakri Eid, all muslims sacrifice goat or ox in admiration of prophet and in faith of Allah. Bakri Eid is celebrated by the believers of Allah and his Quran. The animal which is slaughtered is the divided into three equal portions and are distributed amongst friends, poor or needy people and the last portion is kept for personal consumption.
