Birth Certificate Based on Aadhaar: Recent decisions in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra have caused some concern for residents. Many families had obtained birth certificates based on Aadhaar cards, and now the question is whether those documents will remain valid. The governments of both states have clarified that Aadhaar cannot be used as proof of date of birth.
Because the date of birth recorded in Aadhaar is not verified by any official document, many certificates issued using Aadhaar have come under scrutiny. If your birth certificate was also issued using Aadhaar, it could also be cancelled. In such a situation, learn what you need to do.
Aadhaar no longer proof of birth?
The Uttar Pradesh government clarified that the date of birth is not determined by matching it with any authentic document when creating an Aadhaar card. Therefore, accepting it as proof of date of birth is considered unsafe. From appointments to promotions, only birth certificates, high school mark sheets, and certificates issued by municipal bodies or the health department will be valid for any government process.
The Maharashtra government has also initiated action on this basis. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule stated that birth or death certificates issued solely on the basis of Aadhaar will be considered fake or suspicious and will be immediately cancelled. This step is being taken to prevent cases where certificates are being obtained using false documents.
What to do if Aadhaar based certificate is cancelled?
If your birth certificate was issued using only your Aadhaar card and is now considered for cancellation, there’s no need to panic. You’ll need to submit valid documents for a new birth certificate, such as a high school mark sheet, a hospital-issued birth record, a municipal record, parental documents, or any other official proof that proves your date and place of birth. Apply to the relevant department, submit the documents, and complete the process. This will prevent any future fraud and prevent you from facing any problems again
