The concept of renting a partner for companionship has long been popular in Japan, where individuals can hire someone to pose as their girlfriend or boyfriend for a specific period. These rental relationships involve various activities such as going on dates, dining together, attending events, and simply enjoying each other’s company. While this practice is well-established in Japan, it remains relatively uncommon in India. However, a recent incident involving an Indian woman proposing a similar service has sparked significant online discussion and debate. This unexpected suggestion has generated a buzz among netizens, highlighting the evolving dynamics of modern relationships and the growing acceptance of non-traditional arrangements.

Taking to Instagram, a woman who runs the page @divya_giri__ posted a reel with a text, “rent me for a day and let’s create some amazing memories together!’

Now whether this was meant as sarcasm or a scam, it certainly got the internet talking. As the Instagram reel began spreading across other platforms, many people suspected  it to be a scam. A user on ‘X’ wrote, “All these are simply scams.” Another warned, “This is honey trap. So stay away from, if you trapped thn asking lakhs of money, so beware.”

Some joked saying “Girl thinks she’s in Japan,”

As societal norms continue to shift, the emergence of such services reflects a broader trend towards unconventional forms of companionship and social interaction. While the idea may raise eyebrows, it underscores the diverse ways in which individuals seek connection and companionship in today’s rapidly changing world.
