Spain defeated Netherlands 1-0 after extra time and the goal was credited to Andres Iniesta. This victory gave Spain their first World Cup title and also it was the first time of winning without home advantage since Brazil in 1958 and the only team to win the tournament after losing their opening game.
This victory also marked the first time a European nation thrashed another Europe team and won a football World Cup that was not hosted in Europe.
