Blood Moon 2025: September is shaping up to be quite special for stargazers and astronomers as two rare cosmic event will take place in the coming month– a total lunar eclipse, aka a blood moon, and a partial solar eclipse towards the end of the month.
When will blood moon 2025 occur?
As per the Dubai Astronomy Group (DAG), a total lunar eclipse, commonly known as a ‘blood moon’, will take place on September 7 (Sunday). The cosmic event will begin at around 10 PM (IST), and reach its peak at about 1:30 AM on the September 8. The blood moon will last for 82 minutes, making it one of the longest lunar eclipses in recent history.
According to astronomers, the lunar eclipse, which will end at around 3:30 AM (IST) on the morning of September 8, will be at least partially visible to about 87 percent of the world’s population across Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
Following the Blood Moon 2025 at the beginning of September, a partial solar eclipse will occur near the end of the month. The solar eclipse will take place on September 21, and will mainly visible in the Southern Hemisphere.

The September 21 event will be the last eclipse of the year. The first lunar eclipse of 2025, a blood moon, occurred on March 13-14, while the first solar eclipse also happened in the same month on March 29, 2025.
Will blood moon 2025 be visible in India?
According to DAG, the blood moon will be visible to over 87 percent of the world population across Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. The eclipse, which will also be visible in India, will be one of the longest in recent years, lasting a total of 1 hour and 22 minutes.
The total lunar eclipse will be visible in most parts of Asia including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh as well as Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and other Middle Eastern countries. While the event will partially visible in South America and western North America at moonrise or moonset.
