Budget 2017: Confusion prevails over presentation of budget after E Ahmed’s death but Twitterati run high on expectations

While, government sources are of the opinion that Budget would not be postponed and would be presented after passing an obit reference.

Even as confusion prevails over the presentation of Union Budget 2017 after the death of former Union Minister and sitting Member of Parliament, E Ahamed, Twitter is pouring in with expectations from the budget. If reports are to go by, the presentation of the Budget may get delayed by a day, while some say that the budget will be presented after a delay of a couple of hours.

Reports also say that as per convention the House will adjourn for a day, after mourning the departed Parliamentarian. However, government sources are of the opinion that Budget would not be postponed and would be presented after passing an obit reference. The final decision is likely to be announced on the floor of the House. The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Secretariat have not been informed of any delay in the presentation of the Budget. Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan will take the final decision in this regard.

While Opposition parties are insisting postponement of the Budget 2017 to pay tribute E Ahamed, reportedly the government wants to present the Budget today. As per reports, the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is in favour of presenting the Budget today. As per Parliament rules, the House gets adjourned after making an obituary reference. Kerala MP, E Ahamed who suffered a heart attack on Tuesday had collapsed in Parliament’s Central Hall during President Pranab Mukherjee’s address. He died today while undergoing treatment at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi.
