Women are body shamed at every juncture of their lives. Women are body shamed when they hit puberty and become teenagers, when they are young adults when they get married when they are pregnant and even when they deliver their babies. A woman is subjected to scrutiny all her life and often it results in them being depressed or battling eating disorders like anorexia, bulimia etc. However, the fact becomes too garish when women who are pregnant are body shamed for showing off their baby bumps, something that should be a happy moment for them turns out to be ugly just because some people feel uncomfortable with it. A pregnant Chicago news anchor that is eight months pregnant was body shamed when she appeared on TV in a previously worn blue dress which showed her baby bump, weird thing is that people who took offense were women.
Kristen Nicole, co-anchor of Good Day Chicago on FOX32 was body shamed for wearing a blue dress which accentuated her baby bump. It was not a new dress, she had worn it previously several times but now that she is eight months pregnant, her bump was more evident. Kristen Nicole received three emails from three different women who complained that the sight of her baby bump was ‘disgusting’. Kristen Nicole took to Facebook and shared a post standing her ground against the three women. She named them in her post which has steadily gone viral and received immense appreciation and support. She wrote, “My email address is Kristen.Nicole@foxtv.com, but if you’re writing to tell me that you’re offended by the sight of my baby bump, don’t hold your breath waiting for a response. It’s not coming. I wear this dress probably once a month. No one has EVER had a problem with it. Wear it almost 8 months pregnant?? Whoa…disgusting, right? Kristen Nicole’s Facebook post and her stand against her detractors prove yet again that even though women achieve the pinnacle of success they are still body shamed. Isn’t it high time that women are left alone and given the respect and prestige that they deserve?
