Gorakhpur: In a bid to dispel rumours that eating chicken might cause the deadly coronavirus, a chicken mela was organised in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur on Saturday. And the event was no less than a dream come true for chicken lovers as full plate of chicken dish was priced at just Rs 30! To quell fears that the bird is a carrier of coronavirus, this Chicken Mela was organised by the Poultry Farm Association. Vineet Singh, president of the Poultry Farm Association said that people had stopped eating chicken since the past one month, due to fear of Coronavirus. “We organized this Mela where we invited people to eat chicken. We wanted to tell them that Coronavirus is not caused by eating chicken, mutton or fish. We cooked over a thousand kilograms of chicken for the Mela and the entire stock was finished,” he said.

As per an IANS report, the chicken mela, held in front of the Gorakhpur railway station, proved to be a major crowd puller and left all roads leading to the railway station blocked for hours.

In a similar stunt, senior Telangana ministers KT Rama Rao, Etela Rajender, Talasani Srinivas Yadav and others were seen relishing chicken pieces on the stage at a public event on Friday in order to clear apprehensions of people.

Many poultry businesses in India are suffering losses due to rumours linking eating chicken and egg to COVID-19.
