The Class 10th and Class 12th marksheet of Abhay Singh, aka the ‘IIT Baba’, who shot to fame at the Maha Kumbh in UP’s Prayagraj, has gone viral on social media platforms, showcasing Singh’s academic brilliance to the world. The documents, which have been shared on various social media sites, show that Abhay Singh, an IIT Bombay alumnus with a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, had scored an impressive 93 percent in his Class 10th, and 92.4 percent in his Class 12th examinations.
A native of Sasroli village in Jhajjar, Haryana, Abhay Singh is an aerospace engineer from IIT Bombay who worked for a tech firm in Canada before quitting his profession to dedicate his life to attaining spiritual enlighten by living as a monk.
After acing his class 12th exams with flying colours, Abhay Singh cracked the JEE Advanced, one of the toughest recruitments examinations in the country, reportedly securing an All-India Rank (AIR) of 731 in 2008. Abhay later joined IIT Bombay where he earned a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree in Aerospace Engineering.
In a recent interview, Singh revealed how he left a high-paying job in Canada, where he worked for three years and earned a handsome yearly salary of Rs 36 lakh, returned to India, and went on a spiritual journey to seek enlightenment. Interestingly, Singh does not consider himself a sadhu or a monk, but rather a ‘Bairagi’ (ascetic).
Singh, who has mesmerized pilgrims at the Maha Kumbh mela, said he had decided to pursue a Master’s in Design (MDes) and also worked as a photographer, but ultimately relinquished worldly matters to embark on the path of spirituality.
Talking about his life in Canada, Abhay Singh said that everything about western culture is “superficial” and materialistic where almost no one is happy because money cannot buy inner peace and happiness. Singh revealed that he earned a monthly salary of Rs 3 lakh in Canada, but the expenses of living in that country made the amount seem petty compared to India, where Rs 3 lakh is top-tier salary.
Besides, according to Singh, money cannot buy happiness. “Businessmen have a lot of money but they are not happy. Some people say doing the work you like or following your passion can make you happy. I did all those things, photography, film making, marketing, everything, but eventually realised these were not the paths I needed to take.”
