The dreaded Cyclone Komen has hit the Bangladesh coast on Thursday, July 31, and a warning has been issued for the east coast of India as well. Schools and colleges in Bangladesh are closed today, even as one person reportedly died in St Martin’s Island due to a tree being uprooted as a result of the storm. Over 50 houses on the island have also been destroyed. Ports in Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar are also under danger of the high-tide and cyclone, so are Mongla and Payra. The airport at the St Martin’s Island is shut for the day, say reports, but Chittagong airport is operational. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also warned of Cyclone Komen causing damage in India, and especially West Bengal.
