New Delhi: Railway stations in India have something romantic about them, a feeling that is surreal in the sense as if it is a place somewhere in the poetry made of machines, tracks, passengers, buildings, and amazing surroundings.

Many of these stations have some of the most fascinating stories to tell. Also, there is an uncanny relation between railway stations and platforms and Indian movies. Many of these stations have attained a cult status because they’re featured in a movie. One such station is the Apta railway station of Maharashtra, which has been seen repeatedly in films.

Where is the Apta station?

Apta station is located in the Raigad district of Maharashtra, on the Panvel-Roha railway line. This station, about 75-80 km from Mumbai, looks very ordinary. Local and passenger trains stop here daily, but this place has become more popular due to films.

Why is Apta the favourite station for films?

Often, such stations are chosen for shooting films where there is less crowd and shooting can be done comfortably. Apta station is perfect in this case. There is open space around here, greenery, and there is not as much traffic as there is at the big stations of Mumbai. This is the reason why filmmakers choose it again and again. There is also a separate track and coach arrangement for shooting here, which makes the work easier.

Which films have been shot here?

Apta station has got the most recognition from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ). The famous climax scene of the film, in which Kajol is trying to catch the moving train and Shah Rukh holds her hand, was filmed here. Apart from this, scenes of films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Rang De Basanti, Swades, Fida, Bunty Aur Babli, Khaki, Shadi No.1, and Slumdog Millionaire were also shot here. Even some TV shows and web series have been shot at this station.

Revenue from films

Apta station has not only become famous in films, but the railways also earn from it. Film production houses pay a good fee to the railways for shooting. According to media reports, in the last few years, the railways have earned lakhs of rupees from shooting at this station. This means that this station has proved to be a profitable deal not only on screen but also in real life.
