The Delhi gang-rape incident that happened on December 16, 2012, rocked the entire nation, and India woke up from its deep slumber of not caring about issues like women’s safety. A 23-year-old girl was gang-raped in a moving bus and several injuries were inflicted upon her internal organs. Her male friend was also beaten up.

The girl, nicknamed Nirbhaya by the media for showing bravery in testifying against the accused from her highly critical condition in a Delhi hospital, succumbed to her injuries on December 29, 2012, in a hospital in Singapore where she was admitted for critical care.
