In a terrifying case doctors in China removed a live lizard from a man’s year. The Chinese man had gone to nap when the tine gecko crawled into his ear and woke him up with a feeling of increased irritation and earache. The most haunting part is that the doctors did not find the lizard’s tail during the extraction process and are now hoping that the lizard was tail-less when it entered the ear. This incident took place in South China, and the man complained of a severe earache that he believed was caused by a cockroach that may have entered his ear. The unnamed patient, who was in his 30s, went to the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University in Guangzhou and complained of feeling some movement inside his ears. The doctors found the tiny live gecko in his ear canal and sedated it to stop the reptile from crawling into the man’s ear.

After this, they removed the lizard from his ear by using pliers, but could not locate the tail of the lizard. It is common for lizards to lose their tales and the doctors are hoping that the tail was lost outside before it entered the man’s ear. The lizard is known to grow back its tail, and this characteristic of the reptile is actually a defence mechanism called ‘autotomy’ under which they drop their tails when they feel threatened by a predator.

The cases of bizarre insects being removed from different body parts have been making news for quite some time.
