Down Syndrome Woman Became The First Person To Participate In A Beauty Pageant

She is very passionate about a beauty pageant.

People who suffer from any health issue especially Down Syndrome are unfortunately looked down upon. But there are few who are here to change the mindset of the society by doing extraordinary things that even are a task for people with an ideal body. Today we are talking about one such person who has down syndrome issue but that didn’t stop her to participate in a beauty pageant show. Yes, you read it right. Mikayla Holmgren registered her name in history as she is the first woman with Down Syndrome condition to participate in a Miss USA state  Minnesota pageant.  She didn’t win the pageant show but she was given special awards. yes, she was bestowed with the spirit of Miss USA and director’s awards.”It’s really fun. As I do more pageants and I’m really proud of myself … this is my dream,” she told ABC News’ affiliate KSTP.

This particular award of the spirit of USA is determined on the basis of letters submitted by participant’s family and friends. And another one is given to the woman who stands out from the crowd. She is very passionate about beauty pageant and she even received a standing ovation when she came to accept her awards.

She is right now studying at Bethel University’s Inclusive Learning and Development program. And she is also interning at the university’s child care center. This is not all she is also an ambassador for an NGO that fosters relationships and life skills for people with intellectual disabilities. “I was super shocked, I was in tears,” the 22-year-old from Stillwater, Minnesota, told BuzzFeed News. “I went from a special needs pageant to the biggest pageant in the world. It’s kind of crazy.”
