This is how the web portal looks like
The website suggests that a 27-year-old Brahmin groom who earns more than two lakh rupees per month should get a dowry of one crore rupees. He can also expect lavish wedding, a land property, hefty and expensive jewellery, and even a foreign tour with his wife and all this the groom can achieve with his in-laws hard earned money.
The message reads, “Congratulations! Your current dowry rate is 1 Crore. Besides the cash amount, you are assured a lavish wedding, a land property (given you negotiate your price well), hefty and expensive jewellery, and even a foreign tour with your wife — all with your in-laws’ hard-earned money. Hasn’t someone correctly said, “The best things in life are free”? Now, you can bask in the glory of your achievements. The day has arrived. All these years of hard work and investment in education have finally paid off. You have made your parents proud. Bravo!”
On the other hand, if you are in 30’s and if you do not have highly paid job, then your dowry rate is only 35 lakhs. The message reads, “It is a decent amount, but who wants to settle for decent when there is an entire range of awesomeness available? You could achieve an awesome dowry amount too. Remember the guy who right now deserves the highest dowry, even he at once upon a time started with a market price of zero.”
Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Member of Parliament from Guna in Madhya Pradesh was miffed with the website and lodged a complaint with Prime Minister’s Office and Union Ministry of Women and Child Development.
He took to Twitter to share his disappointment, “Someone just brought this site to my attention. Absolutely shameful! Let me remind the developers that giving or taking dowry is illegal in India. I urge the women welfare ministry and PM to take immediate action against this.”
Following Jyotiraditya Scindia tweet, Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi has urged Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad to block the website and take action against the owner of the website.
