Sacrificing of goats and and sharing the meat with family, friends, neighbors and poor is the main tradition on this festival. The festival officially begins in the evening of September 22 and ends on September 23. The festival is celebrated following the the Holy book of Muslims, Quran which says that Allah (God) commanded Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ishmael to which he readily agreed.
