An ‘octogoat’ is born in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. Yes, a goat gave birth to an eight-legged kid in Balrampur’s Kervashila and it is quite a mindboggling incident. As soon as the news of a baby goat born with eight limbs broke, it spread like fire in the locality. People from near villages visited to catch a glimpse of the new-born ‘miracle’ baby goat. Despite the locals terming the birth as a ‘miracle’, the animal experts rubbished off such claims. Veterinary doctors called it a birth defect that takes place due to change in alteration of genes or simple mutation.
The news agency, ANI tweeted a picture of an eight-legged baby goat with the caption, “Goat gives birth to an 8-legged kid in Balrampur’s Kervashila, veterinary doctor calls it a birth defect.” There was a lot of curiosity among residents to see such a rare occurrence. There were murmurs of people addressing it as a miracle of nature but experts believe the extra legs are the result of a birth defect.

This is not the first time when a goat with eight legs is born in the world. In 2014, a goat with eight legs was born on a farm in Croatia. The goat also has both male and female reproductive organs. Local veterinarians had confirmed that the reason for the baby goat’s extra legs, in this case, was due to an underdeveloped twin sibling. The farmer named Zoran Paparic had called the ‘octogoat’ a ‘miracle of nature’. Well, three years later, an octagoat is born in India and hope it survives considering the survival chances in such cases are low.
