After bowling out England for 297 on the opening day of the third Test at Edgbaston, Pakistan began their batting on day two. The visitors, on a rain intervened day, batted superbly to maintain the upper hand in the Test. At close of play on day 2, Pakistan was 257 for three and now trail just by 40 runs.

The day began on a positive note for England with James Anderson striking early on once again. The pacer removed Mohammad Hafeez to make things difficult for Pakistan. However, the tourists replied with a positive batting display from Sami Aslam, who replaced Shan Masood in the playing XI, and Azhar Ali.

The duo put on a 181-run stand for the second wicket and made it a miserable day for English bowlers. Sami scored 82 off 176 balls before he was run out while Azhar went on to smash a century.

Here is how the action unfolded on day two-

On fourth ball of Pakistan innings Anderson removed Hafeez for a four-ball duck.

Sami and Azhar steady the Pakistan ship with 181-run stand for the second wicket.

Sami, the 20-year-old left-handed opener, was run out on an individual score of 82.

Azhar scored his Test career’s tenth Test century. His previous four scores in the series were 7, 23, 1, 8.

Azhar was then dismissed on the last ball of the day. He fell to Chris Woakes after scoring 139 off 293 balls.

At stumps, Younis Khan was batting on 21. On day three Pakistan will look to go past England’s total and build a huge first innings lead. Skipper Misbah ul Haq is expected to join Younis in the middle on day three. The four-match series is currently leveled at one apiece. Pakistan won the first Test at Lord’s and the England bounced back to register a convincing win at Manchester.
