One such report was published on a website named inventiva.co.in claiming the same. Making a reference to economic slowdown, lines from the article read as, “if no steps would be of any help to control the economy, Narendra Modi would have no option but to impose the financial emergency in India under Article 360 and the country would go in its worst and most dreaded recession of all times.” Also Read - PM Modi to Address Nation at 8 PM Tonight on 'Vital Aspects' of COVID-19 Outbreak



According to a Times Of India report, top government sources unequivocally denied the claim made in the article and called it fake. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also refuted such reports during her press conference.

Now, PIB’s fact check Twitter handle has debunked the unsubstantiated claims and wrote on Twitter, ”An online website has falsely reported that the Government is likely to impose Financial Emergency in India to tackle the crisis caused by #Covid19. Please be advised that the story is malicious and fake and that there is no such plan”.



PM will address the nation again at 8 PM on Tuesday on the coronavirus outbreak, which has claimed 9 lives so far in the country. He tweeted, ”Will address the nation at 8 PM today, 24th March 2020, on vital aspects relating to the menace of COVID-19.”

This will be the Prime Minister’s second address to the nation within a week. Earlier on March 19, he had addressed the nation on efforts to combat the spread of the deadly virus.
