Mumbai: A flight attendant Tuesday alleged that singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya had sexually harassed her some 20 years ago. She said that the singer almost kissed her and nibbled her left ear. She alleged that the incident happened some 20 years ago in a pub in Kolkata. Bhattacharya allegedly misbehaved with her, grabbed her by her wrist, pulled her closer when she refused to dance with him, a media report quoted her as saying.
Reacting to the sexual harassment allegations, the singer said that he “wasn’t even born at that time” and ugly, fat women have now started coming out to blame people. Dismissing the claims, Bhattacharya said, “Most of the people who are coming out right now are dirty, ugly people. Koi mota hai koi patla hai. No one deserves (the attention). Most of the fat and ugly girls are blaming and I wasn’t born at that time.”
He went on to claim that he has never been to a pub in his life and the media will never find him on page 3 events. Accusing the flight attendant of using his name to gain some benefits, he told The Indian Express that it’s good and “sometimes earning bread and butter with my name is fine.”
The allegations have come at a time when many women are taking to social media to share their #MeToo incidents. The movement gained pace when actor Tanushree Dutta alleged that Nana Patekar had sexually harassed her on the sets of Horn ‘Ok’ Pleassss during the shooting of an item song following which she was replaced by Rakhi Sawant. Since then, more women have followed.
Recently, Tara producer alleged that the most sanskaari actor Alok Nath had raped her “endlessly” 20 years ago. Patekar had also sexually harassed another lead actress of the show. “He continued to drink till the time he was called for the shot. “I can remember more liquor being poured into my mouth and I remember being violated endlessly. When I woke up the next afternoon, I was in pain. I hadn’t just been raped, I was taken to my own house and had been brutalised. I couldn’t get up for my bed. I told some of my friends but everybody advised me to forget about it and move on,” she wrote in her Facebook post.
