‘Friends’ revisited: Lisa Kudrow sings “Smelly Cat” on stage with Taylor Swift

Kudrow leaves the audience in fits of laughter.

“Smelly Cat, Smelly Cat, what are they feeding you?” More than a decade after the show wrapped up, the fans of the popular  show “Friends” still hum to this tune that part-time singer Phoebe Buffay sings, right through the show. The role of Buffay was played by Lisa Kudrow, who went on to win several awards for the role. Here  she is, with pop star Taylor Swift on stage and she is being taught how to enunciate and “Feel the lyrics”, just like Kudrow does in the show. This leaves the audience in fits of laughter and Taylor is only able to pull off the song, somewhat. It is the actress who walks away with all the plaudits.

Taylor is a self-confessed cat lover and is also a fan of the show. This was obviously a treat for the fans of the show. The reruns are still popular; even for the teenyboppers, who missed out growing up with the show. All the characters of “Friends” have become household names. It is not that Kudrow sung this song on stage, it is how much the fans relate to it and the cheers that “Smelly Cat” brings sums up the popularity of the show, that also starred Matthew Perry, Matt Le Blanc, David Schwimmer, Jennifer Anniston, Courtney Cox apart from Kudrow.
