The third episode of Game of Thrones Season 8 was as epic as it was expected to be. Surprisingly, and quite shockingly for some (HUGE spoilers ahead), The Night King was killed by Arya Stark and not many characters lost their lives, which is another jaw-dropping moment considering viewers prepared themselves to see a lot more bloodshed in the longest episode of the show. So, while Milasandre returned and the Winterfell showed exemplary courage in fighting the army of the dead, many survived (read most of them) and many got killed (as expected). Here’s a compiled list of who all are not alive to tell the story of the Battle of Winterfell. Also Read - Squid Game Crushes Game of Thrones' Content on YouTube With 17 Billion Views

The Night King: Despite how deadly he seemed (after all he is the chief of the dead) throughout all these seasons, the ice zombie appeared to be an easy target for brave assassin Arya Stark. In one of the best moments of all the seasons combined, Arya pounced on the Night King and stabbed him with Valyrian steel dagger. This also destroyed the entire army of the dead as one of the strongly believed fan theories suggested killing the Night King would also lead to the destruction of his entire army as once you kill a White Walker, all of the wights that White Walker ‘sired’ would die. Melisandre: After reminding Arya that she had prophesied about Arya taking many lives including killing those with ‘blue eyes,’ Melisandre finally took off the amulet that carried her mortality and shuffled it off. The red witch was one of the surprises at the beginning of the episode. She turned as the battle was just beginning to lend her support to the Living. It was revealed in season six that she was older than how she appeared and her immortality lied in the red amulet that she wore around her neck. After the battle, she walked onto the plain and took off the amulet.
Theon Greyjoy: Surely one of the expected loss in the Battle of Winterfell, Theon Greyjoy who was primarily dedicated to protecting Bran Stark in the godswood, sacrificed his life. He defended Bran against the Night King and only when Bran told him he was ‘a good man’, Theon died peacefully.
Lyanna Mormont: Little Lady Lyanna showed exemplary courage in front of the Night King’s giant but lost her life. She fought by displaying the kind of valour not even people twice her age did in the battle or otherwise. The badass Northern leader faced the ice giant but couldn’t survive.
Ser Jorah Mormont: He died while protecting the love of his life – Queen Daenerys Targaryen. As the horde of wights came to attack the dragon queen, Ser Jorah defended her and lost his life. She cried over him in his final moment – a sight to behold.
Lord Beric Dondarrion: He also lost his life protecting the one whose life mattered the most – Arya Stark. Lord Beric fought with Arya and the Hound and sacrifice himself while saving her from the horde of the wights.
Dolorous Edd: He met with death while rescuing Samwell Tarly from a wight. Edd Tollett or Dolorous Edd was the former commander of the Night’s Watch and the one who showed his loyalty to his brothers till the very last moment even during the battle.
Viserion: The ice dragon who was resurrected in the last season finally rest in peace. As the brave Arya Stark stabbed the Night King to death, it meant that all the things sired by him – wights, White Walkers and the ice dragons – would eventually die.
