Google on Wednesday celebrated the 87th birthday of Urdu poet and author Abdul Qavo Desnavi with a doodle. Desnavi, a writer, linguist, and bibliographer was born in the Nalanda district of Bihar on November 1, 1930. Over five decades of his career, Naqvi has written widely read books on freedom fighters Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, Muhammad Iqbal, and Mirza Ghalib. Desnavi who was the head of the Urdu department at the Saifia College in Bhopal has mentored acclaimed Urdu writers like Javed Akhtar and Iqbal Massod. The critic has also written anthologies, poetry, biographies, and fiction.
The Google Doodle shows Desnavi at work with the Google logo written in a font to look like the Urdu script. The doodle has been illustrated by Google Doodler Prabha Mallya. Before finalizing on this doodle, Mallya came up with a number of concept sketches including one showcasing some of the most important research work by Desnavi. This Google Doodle is only restricted to India. The concept sketches can be seen on the Google Doodle page. Desnavi got his primary education in Arrah town of Bihar. He completed his Graduation and Post Graduation from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai.
Desnavi has a prominent in the evolution of Urdu literature in India. He had been bestowed with several awards for his literary works. Even after retiring, he held various important positions in different organizations. These included positions in the Madhya Pradesh Urdu Academy, the All India Anjuman Taraqui Urdu Board, and the Barkatullah University. He was also a member of the programming advisory committee on All India Radio. Desnavi died at the age of 81 in 2011.
