Maharashtrian New Year which is celebrated on the first day of the Chaitra month to mark the beginning of the New Year according to the Hindu calendar. The Gudi Padwa is celebrated throughout the state of Maharashtra with much pomp and fervor. People dress up in new and traditional attire, clean their houses, and make rangolis and offer sweets and other delicacies to the Hindu Gods and Goddesses and to their loved ones. On the day of Gudi Padwa people decorate the Gudi with red, yellow or orange coloured cloth and hoist it at a height. The Gudi is then covered with a copper or silver vessel. Many celebs of Maharastrian lineage like Sonali Bendre, Madhuri Dixit, Riteish Deshmukh, Amruta Khanvilkar, Urmila Kothare, Sai Tamhankar, Mithila Palkar shared their pictures on their Instagram page in their traditional attire. The women were complete with the ‘nauvari sari’ and nose pin whereas the men were looking dashing in ‘kurta pyjama’ and turbans. Urmila Kothare shared a lovely picture of doing aarti of the Gudi with her husband Adinath Kothare.
