An avian love affair is what is keeping New York City on its toes in the midst of the impending Oscars 2018. Two red-tailed hawks named Christo and Dora have ruled the roost for five years at Tompkins Square Park, mating and raising 10 chicks together. However, this love story had a twist when the female hawk, named Dora, was taken to rehab for an injured wing. During her absence, another female hawk came and started flapping her wings at the male hawk Christo and they soon became a couple. Hawks usually mate for life but the new female Nora successfully ensnared Christo leaving Dora helpless and forlorn. Laura Goggin who has been documenting the love affair on her blog spoke to the New York Post about the other female Nora, “She swooped in the second Dora left.” Christo, the unfaithful hawk invited Nora to mate with him in the nest he has been sharing with Dora. As reported by the Post, local resident Helen Stratford said, “It put a bad taste in our mouths to see him with a mistress.” When Dora returned from rehab she confronted her cheating mate and his feathery mistress.
