When we think about polar bears, we think of huge furry intimidating bears hunting seal or swimming around the icy waters. But this upsetting video shows zero sign of ice in ice land and skinny polar bear in his final moments. A photographer named Paul Nicklen and other filmmakers from conservation group Sea legacy filmed soul-crushing scene that showcases how climate change is a big problem that needs our attention right away and the melting of ice sheets are having a direct impact on bears.
Posting the video on social media platform Facebook, Mr Nicklen wrote: ‘It’s a soul-crushing scene that still haunts me, but I know we need to share both the beautiful and the heartbreaking if we are going to break down the walls of apathy. The video showcases a starving, bony dying polar bear who is desperately searching food. It is heartbreaking as polar bears are one of the dangerous predators but this video shows their worst plight. Nicklen has been constantly asked why he didn’t feed the bear.
Nicklen said: “Of course, that crossed my mind. But it’s not like I walk around with a tranquilizer gun or 400 pounds of seal meat.” Also, it is important to know that feeding polar bears in Canada is illegal. The photographer said that he filmed the slow death as to make sure people realize how bears are starving to death. “When scientists say bears are going extinct, I want people to realize what it looks like. Bears are going to starve to death,” said Nicklen. The video was filmed when he visited the area in summer but the same was posted this week.
Due to climatic changes, many animals are facing extinction and now it seems polar bears will too extinct soon as their natural habitats are getting devastated. Ice in the polar regions are melting and temperatures are soaring rapidly.
