New Delhi: When Saudi Arabia is mentioned, the image of a scorching desert and scorching sun comes to mind, but a special event is taking place amidst these desert mountains. The rugged-looking desert mountains in northern Saudi Arabia have transformed into a magnificent winter wonderland. A blanket of snow has covered the Trojena Highlands and parts of the Tabuk region. Heavy snowfall has occurred in Jabal al-Lawz in the Tabuk region, causing the temperature in the area to drop below freezing. People are finding it hard to believe the pictures of snowfall coming from Saudi Arabia. Many are even thinking it’s AI-generated.

According to the Saudi Gazette report, light to moderate rain accompanied by snowfall occurred in the Trojena Highlands. Rain has been reported in several centers, including Bir Bin Hirmas, Al-Uyaynah, Halat Ammar and Shiqri, and surrounding areas. A user shared a video of this on social media, writing, “In a rare event, heavy snowfall is occurring in Saudi Arabia.”
Jabal al-Lawz is located in the northwest of Saudi Arabia at an altitude of approximately 2580 meters above sea level. Jabal al-Lawz literally means – Almond Mountain. The snowfall here has attracted the attention of both locals and tourists. The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) in Saudi Arabia has issued a warning of moderate to heavy thunderstorms and rain in parts of Riyadh, the Eastern Province and the Northern Borders.
The pictures and visuals of the snowfall have surprised social media users. Many are asking whether it is real or fake. Meanwhile, one person has linked it to the Prophet’s prophecy, calling it a sign of the approaching end times. This is being connected to the prophecy of Prophet Muhammad. Islamic prophecies and hadiths attributed to the Prophet Muhammad state that “in the end times, the Arabian Peninsula will once again become green and full of rivers.”
Many are wondering if the snowfall is the beginning of a transformation that could eventually turn the desert green, transforming the arid land into a fertile region abundant with water and vegetation. Increased rainfall in desert areas means the soil will retain moisture, which is essential for plant growth.
