Confused on when Hockey was removed from being the national game? Well, according to the Wikipedia, “Field hockey is the national sport of Pakistan. It was the national sport of India until the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports declared in August 2012 that India has no national sport.” So what exactly happened? According to the TOI report, in the year 2012, a 10-year-old girl Aishwarya Parashar posted an RTI query as she wanted to know when did the government issue an order to announce the country’s national game.

The reply from Union Ministry of Youth Affairs left everyone stunned. The ministry responded saying it has not found any official order or notification which calls hockey the national game. The shocking information had ruffled several feathers back then but clarified the stand that India is without a national game. The questionable Hockey is National Sports of India became fresh in our minds after Twitterati went berserk referring it.
