The famous Shanghai-based Hurun Global rich list of 2018 is out and the same shows India as a nation with the third highest number of billionaires. India regained its number three spot with 131 billionaires and is behind only China and the USA and is ahead of countries like UK, Germany, Switzerland and Russia among others. As per report maximum number of billionaires belong to Pharmaceutical sector, followed by automobile and FMCG sector. Mukesh Ambani (RIL), Dilip Shanghvi (Sun Pharma), Gautam Adani (Adani Enterprises’) and Shiv Nadar (HCL) feature in the list of top 100 billionaires in the world. Mumbai tops the list of Indian cities with most billionaires and is followed by New Delhi.
2017 was a great year for Indians and the only Indian who saw great growth in wealth was Gautam Adani as last year his wealth doubled to USD 14 billion. Yes, the business tycoon saw 109 percent growth in just one year. “A boom in China, a weak dollar coupled with us tax cuts has driven billionaires to break new records,” says Rupert Hoogewerf, Hurun Report chairman, and chief.
Amazon CEO is the richest man
The top spot on the list is taken by none other than Jeff Bezos who is the CEO of Amazon. Warren Buffet and Bill Gates are at second and third position respectively and they are followed by Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, Bernard Arnault of LVMH, Amancio Ortega of Inditex, Carlos Slim Helu and family of America Movil, Larry Ellison of Oracle, Larry page of Google and Michael Bloomberg of Bloomberg. 7 of the top 10 billionaires are from the USA.
China has the highest number of billionaires
The number one spot is grabbed by China with 819 billionaires compared with 571 in the USA. Last year the position was held by the USA and India was at the fourth position. As per the list, there are 2694 billionaires in the world and 437 more than last year and four new billionaires are added per week in China. T
The report highlights youngest billionaires as well. 85 billionaires are forty years of age or under and the youngest one is Norwegian who is 21 year old and has inherited her USD 1.3 bn wealth from her father. But youngest self-made billionaire is an Irishman John Collision of Stripe. He is 27 years old and his total worth is USD 1.2 billion.
