Richest Railway Station in India: The Indian Railways, one of the largest railway networks in the world, manages and operates a whopping 7,461 railway stations across the country. But have you ever wondered which railway station brings in the most revenue for the national transporter? Let us find out more about India’s richest railway station.
According to Indian Railways’ data, the New Delhi railway station was the highest earner for the the national transporter in financial year 2023-24, raking in a whopping Rs 3337 crore. Apart from being highest revenue earner for the Railways, the New Delhi railway station is also one of the busiest in the country, ferrying a staggering 39,362,272 in FY 23-24.
West Bengal’s Howrah Railway Station ranks second on the list of richest railway stations in India, bringing in an impressive Rs 1692 crore in the last fiscal.
Chennai Central (MGR station) and Vijayawada Railway Station are also ranked among the top earners for the Indian Railways.
Railway stations managed and operated by the Indian Railways earn revenue from advertisements, shops, clock rooms, waiting halls, as well as selling platform tickets.
The Indian Railways manages and operates a staggering 7,461 railway stations across the country, with Uttar Pradesh having a whopping 1,173 train stations, the highest in India, followed by Maharashtra (689), Bihar (768), Madhya Pradesh (550), and Gujarat (509).
