Kathak guru Aparna Mishra has been involved the dance form for the 16 years. She thought of the men who are interested in Kathak but not many come forward to learn or practice it. So, she designed a 90-minute workshop exclusively for men. This dance workshop is something you could gift your daddy dearest if he has an interest in knowing more about the classical Indian dance form. The dancer has been teaching Kathak to both men and women and wants to further involve men. In the Father’s Day workshop, Aparna says that she will use footwork, bhaav, bol and body posture specific to males, which involves the Fibonacci series that is a mathematical pattern prevalent in nature. Men can mostly relate to mathematics and physics, and so Aparna wants to use that to explain Kathak.
Through this Kathak workshop on Father’s Day 2016, Aparna also wants to discuss gender inequalities. She says, “We appreciate equality, so let’s also appreciate, celebrate and not shy away from these inequalities because that is the way nature has made us.”
The Kathak For Him dance workshop will be held from 7.30 pm to 9 pm IST on June 19 at NCPA, Mumbai.
