The Indian Super League 2016 or ISL 2016, the third season of the league, concluded with a thrilling finale on Sunday, December 18 in Kochi. The Kerala Blasters vs Atlético de Kolkata ISL Final 2016 match was a nail-biting one for the fans of legendary Indian cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly. While Sachin Tendulkar, the best batsman in the world who is now retired from active cricket, co-owns the Kerala Blasters FC team, former India cricket captain S0urav Ganguly is the co-owner of Atlético de Kolkata. Cricket fans will know that Sourav Ganguly was a very good football player before making the switch to cricket and attaining fame and glory. So, fans are happy for Sourav that his team Atletico de Kolkata has won the ISL 2016 Final, beating their ‘God’ that is Sachin Tendulkar’s team Kerala Blasters FC. This was a repeat feat from exactly two years ago, when on december 20, 2014, Atletico de Kolkata had beaten Kerala Blasters 1-0 in the ISL 2014 Final at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. That was the first ISL ever and the first winners have returned as champions of ISL 2016!
The Atletico de Kolkata team is owned by Kolkata Games and Sports Pvt Ltd, a company formed by Spanish La Liga club Atlético Madrid with Sourav Ganguly and businessmen Harshavardhan Neotia, Sanjiv Goenka and Utsav Parekh. The Atletico de Kolkata is the first team formed in the ISL. The Kerala Blasters FC is co-owned by Sachin Tendulkar along with Telugu actors Chiranjeevi, Akkineni Nagarjuna and Allu Aravind, as well as industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad. Twitter is abuzz with praises for Sourav Ganguly, including by Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Sourav’s home state and the most football crazy state of India.
