Director Bong Joon Ho’s film Parasite created history at the 92nd Oscars 2020 and left everyone astonished by winning the award in four leading categories. While Asians around the world celebrate his win at the Oscars 2020, a specific section of South-East Asians in India are relating to his victory. Bengalis across the world are proud that another ‘Bong’, which is also a commonly used word to describe Bengalis, has won the prestigious trophy. Before the Oscars, Bong Joon Ho received Golden Globe Award for his critically acclaimed film Parasite. While receiving the award, he said, “Once you overcome the one-inch tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films. Not only has it transcended the Oscar standards, it has certainly transcended the language barriers into the Bengali community as well.”
