March 8 is International Women’s Day, and you must have got congratulatory messages on WhatsApp and Facebook. You must have also read messages from celebrities on Twitter and hashtags that were made to trend. Offices, restaurants, clubs are giving discounts, holding parties and trying their utmost to ensnare the women consumers. However, today March 8, 2017 is just another day. Out of 365 days in a year one day is given to women to celebrate their womanhood, tributes are paid and people think of their mothers; but what about the other 364 days of the year. What about the other women in your life- your wife, your daughter, your sister, your friend, your cousin, your colleague or the random woman on the street. Why can’t you think of them and treat them as equals and human beings the rest of the year too? Is Women’s Day celebrated to shut woman up so that they don’t ask for more, so that they don’t try to break the glass ceiling or try to bring to notice the sexual harassment that she faces at the hands of her male colleagues? Some of Bollywood’s more progressive actresses like Kriti SanonSwara Bhaskar and Taapsee Pannu are trying to break the clutter and reach out to people to bring attention to more pertinent issues that trouble women around the world. Talking about how pretentious this celebration of International Women’s Day is, Kriti Sanon featured in a video by her brand Ms Taken that highlights all the evils that still plague women even now when we are in the 21st century. Happy Women’s Day, really? Happy Whatever, she says. Watch the video by Kriti Sanon here, it’s pretty self-explanatory. Women’s Day 2017: Virat Kohli, Shah Rukh Khan, Narendra Modi, Priyanka Chopra post greetings! On the other hand Swara Bhaskar and Taapsee Pannu feature in a video with an apt and haunting title How much cleavage is good cleavage?. The two actresses explain how women can protect themselves against male perverts, boys and other menfolk at the work place and any other location. They suggest and advise women albeit sarcastically what to wear at office, at gym, at club, in evenings and even at your wedding. The video slams the usual practice of blaming the victim of sexual abuse or rape. We will take the opportunity to reiterate that they were throwing sarcasm and shade at people who always find ways to blame women for the rapes and assaults that they undergo.

Hats off to these ladies who are not shying away from lending their voice and making people understand the need to respect women. Kriti Sanon, Swara Bhaskar and Taapse Pannu we bow to thee!
