After France and Tunisia was attacked by Islamic State (IS) terrorists, killing 28 people in total, a Shia mosque in Kuwait City was also attacked. At least 25 people were killed in the Imam Sadiq Mosque after an explosion in the afternoon following Friday’s congregational prayers.
The Kuwait City blast is a suicide attack by the IS again, who released a statement on social media, identifying the suicide attacker as Abu Suleiman al-Muwahed. They terror group termed the Shia mosque as a temple of ‘mushriks’ or polytheists.
The Imam Sadiq Mosque is located in Kuwait’s al-Sawabir district and is the largest Shia prayer house of the country. Reports say the attack in the holy month of Ramadan has come as a surprise to the Kuwait government. The country’s former information minister, Saad al-Ajmi, reportedly said, “The attack is a reminder that no country is immune from terrorism.”
The IS has claimed responsibility for all three terror attacks – France, Tunisia and Kuwait. See exclusive photos – courtesy of iDream Media – of the bomb blast in the Kuwait mosque (viewer discretion advised due to gory images).
