A shocking incident was reported from Bengaluru, where a woman said she was harassed by a Rapido driver after booking a ride. The incident happened on November 6 when she was returning to her paying guest accommodation from Church Street. In a post shared online, the woman said that the driver tried to touch her legs while riding. “It happened so suddenly that I couldn’t even understand what was going on, let alone record it. When he did it again, I told him, “Bhaiya, kya kar rahe ho, mat karo.” (What are you doing? Don’t do this…) but he didn’t stop.”
The woman said she was too scared to ask him to stop the ride because she was new to the area and didn’t know where she was. “By the time we reached my destination, I was shaking and crying,” she said.
She added that a man passing by noticed that something was wrong and came to help. “A kind stranger asked me what happened. When I told him, he confronted the driver. The driver apologised and said he wouldn’t repeat it, but as he left, he pointed his finger at me in a way that made me feel even more scared,” the woman wrote.
The woman later shared a video that clearly shows the Rapido driver putting his hand on her legs as he stops the vehicle. She also posted a screenshot showing the driver’s details and a message from another woman who said she had seen the driver touch her but had assumed they were friends until she read the post.
In another screenshot, the woman shared her WhatsApp chat with a friend, where she wrote, “This Rapido is not safe. He’s trying to touch me.”
She said this was not the first time she had faced such behaviour, but the fear and helplessness she felt during this ride made her speak up. “No woman should ever have to face something like this not in a cab, not on a bike, not anywhere,” she said, urging women to stay alert and trust their instincts.
After her post went viral, the Bengaluru City Police replied, asking her to share her location and contact details so they could investigate the case further.
Meanwhile, Rapido also commented that they are investigating the matter in detail. “We are concerned to learn about the captain’s inappropriate conduct during your recent ride. Your safety and comfort remain our top priorities. Kindly allow us some time to investigate the matter in detail,” the company reportedly said.
