11-year old lioness, Siena, at the Masai Mara Nature Reserve in Kenya survived miraculously after a male buffalo gored her. The lioness had her leg ripped off in the attack, but thanks to the staff at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust – a specialist elephant rehabilitation centre she recovered after being operated. If the wound were left untreated, it would have led to the death of Siena, who belongs to The Marsh Pride. Siena had to live 24 hours with the deep wound caused by goring of buffalo before she received the medical attention.
It took veterinary surgeon and his team almost three and a half hours cleaning up and stitching the wound. Siena after the surgery got back on her legs and returned to her cubs.
