Locals Discover 54 Human Hands Dumped Inside a Bag in Russia; Nobody Knows Why They Were Chopped Off

In far eastern Russia, locals have made a shocking discovery. Dozens of pairs of severed human hands have been found in a frozen river. This discovery was made close to the city of Khabarovsk in Siberia, close to the border with China. Reportedly, a local found one of the hands lying on the shore of a river. This led to the discovery of a bag full of human hands – 54 hands to be precise. The hand which wasn’t in the bag was found on a snow-covered island in the Amur River, which is about 18 miles downstream from the Russian frontier with China, reports Daily Mirror. The grim find has shocked people, and investigations are currently on.

Locals say that though the hands were found near a popular fishing spot, they saw nothing suspicious. There is ‘mystery over who the sinister hands belonged to, when they were chopped off – and why’, reports the Siberian Times. All the 54 hands hidden inside the bag were laid out on the snow for a police picture. The graphic image is sure to be disturbing to many. Fingerprints were found on one hand. The other hands are being checked. The Daily Mail states that one gruesome theory could be that the hands could have been axed off as a punishment for theft. Another theory states that the hands were severed from dead bodies in a hospital.

However, it is unclear why any of this would happen. Some fear that the corpses were illegally used for stealing body parts and the hands were cut to prevent bodies being identified afterwards by fingerprints. According to local media reports in Siberia, medical bandages and hospital-style plastic shoe covers were found next to the bag. People who saw the severed hands called it a “sickening sight”. The police refused to comment on the case.
