Photo of a Muslim woman clicked during the recent London terror attack on Westminster Bridge has led to a social media outrage. The Muslim woman clad in a brown headscarf and grey coat was trolled by social media users for walking past a victim being treated on the pavement. The woman was heavily criticised on social media for walking indifferently to the victim while checking her mobile phone. The photo shows the woman going past the victim while others appear to be helping the person. While she was shamed by most, some rose to her defense saying that non-Muslims were also photographed walking past victims of the attack without looking sympathised.
The controversial photo was clicked a news cameraman, Jamie Lorriman near the attack spot where five people died and many were injured. It was a Twitterati, Texas Lone Star who shared the photo with the caption: “Muslim woman pays no mind to the terror attack, casually walks by a dying man while checking her phone” which went viral. Things calmed down a but after the photographer revealed the truth behind the photo. Lorriman told the ABC that the woman was “distressed and horrified” and explained the scene as “strange sort if calm atmosphere”. He said, “No one was sort of screaming or shouting.” He also said that people who thought the woman was ignoring the man had misappropriated the image. Soon after the tweet went viral, people took to the micro-blogging site to shut down trollers talking ill of a girl without knowing the context. While some said that she look terrified from her facial expression others said that she could be informing her family that she was safe.

Prime Minister Theresa May said the attacker was familiar to the police and MI5 and that he was inspired by Islamist terrorism. The gunman had been investigated some years ago over extremism. However, according to the Islamic State terror group, the attacker was one of its ‘soldiers’.
