Lucknow Metro might be the fastest metro system to be completed in India, but that has little effect on the commuters’ attitude towards using public services. A video is going viral on the social media and WhatsApp, which shows an old man peeing inside metro. The video uploaded by several YouTube channels is described as a man urinating in public due to the lack of toilets in the newly inaugurated Lucknow Metro. But in reality, it is an old video that has gained momentum after the embarrassing news of tobacco recovery on Lucknow Metro.
A string of announcements are heard inside a metro – please don’t eat inside the compartment, please don’t sit on the floor. After seeing this particular video, metro officials would not mind adding another rule in their instructions – Please don’t pee inside the metro. A video uploaded by multiple YouTube channels has caused an uproar on the internet. It shows a dhoti-clad senior citizen sitting comfortably to attend nature’s call – inside the metro, which is shared as footage from the newly inaugurated Lucknow Metro. But this video is old, released way before the launch of Lucknow Metro on September 5, 2017. India.com could not independently confirm the authenticity and origin of the video.
The Lucknow Metro project was inaugurated by Minister of Home Affairs Rajnath Singh and Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday. But the new 8.5-kilometre city train ride proved to be a nightmare for the commuters as it stopped for an hour due to a technical glitch. The lights and air-conditioning had also stopped working, adding to the woes of passengers.
Meanwhile, in the first two days of its launch, Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) security collected over 20 kgs of tobacco and related products. Metro passengers in the city have been trying various tricks to smuggle tobacco and related products inside coaches. “The passengers, who are in the habit of carrying tobacco products, are not ready to give up and try to smuggle it pan masala and other products in their pockets, socks, and belts,” a security personnel deployed at the Charbagh Metro Station said. It looks like people are not entirely ready to use the metro.
