Maha Kumbh 2025: The Maha Kumbh 2025 in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj has drawn out some truly fascinating characters who have become social media darlings since the grand mela began on January 13 this month. Among the scores of sadhus who have drawn massive crowds of devotees at the world’s largest religious gathering, is Mahamandaleshwar Arun Giri, aka Avdhoot, now popularly known as ‘Golden Baba’.

According to reports, Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Arun Giri of Shri Panchadashanam Aawahan Akhara, who is dons gemstone rings, gold bracelets, and diamond-studded watches, weighing 6.7kg, was recently gifted throne made out of gold by one of his disciples, that weighs a whopping 251 kg, and is estimated to cost a staggering Rs 200 crore.

Reports quoting Mahamandaleshwar Swami Prakashanand of Aawahan Akhara, said the super-expensive offering was gifted to Acharya Arun Giri, aka Golden Baba, by one of his wealthy disciples, and currently rests in the seer’s camp in Sector-14 of the Mahakumbh mela area.

However, there’s no information about the disciple/devotee who gifted this expensive golden throne, which also has a footrest and a platform, to Acharya Arun Giri.

The Maha Kumbh or the Kumbh Mela is held once every 12 years at the Triveni Sangam — the confluence of the rivers Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati — in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The Maha Kumbh 2025, one of the largest spiritual and religious gatherings in the world, kicked off on January 13 and will continue till February 16 with the state government estimating a footfall of 40 to 45 crore pilgrims during the period.
