Less than one week ago the “Fearless Girl” statue was unveiled at Wall Street in downtown New York. Less than two days after International Women’s Day a man in a business suit was seen humping the statue of the little girl. A picture of this man humping the stone statue has been circulating the internet and clearly, shows what is wrong with this world full of misogyny. A woman who witnessed this appalling incident, Alexis Kaloyanides, took a picture and posted it on social media platform, Facebook. The image has since gone viral and highlights the need for feminism in the world.
The image was shared by Alexis Kaloyanides, who captioned the picture with a powerful post that captures the need for feminism in the world. “Almost as if out of central casting, some Wall Street finance broseph appeared and started humping the statue while his gross date rape-y friends laughed and cheered him on. He pretended to have sex with the image of a little girl. Douchebags like this are why we need feminism.”, her Facebook post read.
The “Fearless Girl” statue was a representation of women empowerment, and this horrific incident enlightens the need for International Women’s Day and highlights the misogynistic thought process of perverted men. Alexis Kaloyanides said that the man saw her photographing him and immediately left.
The “Fearless Girl” figurine of the little girl staring down at the famous Charging Bull was an initiative by investment management firm State Street who wanted to highlight the importance of gender diversity, especially in the field of finance. The little girl inspired many women and became an attraction instantly; however, this incident proves that the statue of the girl is in as much danger as any women walking down the street.
