Maruti Suzuki Baleno has been launched in India for Rs 4.99 lakh ex-showroom New Delhi. The styling is refreshing and probably the best from Maruti Suzuki in recent times. The car goes up into a fight with the Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai Elite i20 and the Honda Jazz in the premium hatchback segment. The Baleno is a very practical car. It may have gone down in size from the mid-size sedan it used to be in the past to what looks like a grown-up Maruti Suzuki Swift. And, that’s a good thing considering what a hit the Swift continues to be till date. The premium hatchback is 3995 mm long, 1745 mm wide and 1500 mm high. It has best-in-class fuel economy figures and has a lot of space for your luggage. Here’s a look at the performance figures and some other accessories of the Baleno and the competition. The Baleno fairs well on the roads. Despite having a light body, it doesn’t feel nervous on the highway. Suspension is good and bumps are absorbed pretty well at low as well as high speeds. What’s bad is the engine noise at lower speeds but once you get in your groove, the engine makes lesser noise and gives better performance as well. It looks like a real game changer for the b+ segment and Honda, Volkswagen and Hyundai might have to upgrade their cars a bit to keep up with the new kid on the block. Here’s a first drive video of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno.
