In our mundane and regular lives we often forget what great quality humanity, kindness and compassion are. We’re all caught up in the rat-race and hence seldom find time and opportunity to do something or someone else. However, every now and then we come across some stories that remind us that humanity is not dead. Meet Bouncy Mehta, a resident of Mumbai who is teaching us the meaning of humanity and love. In an interview with Humans of Bombay, Bouncy Mehta shared a heartwarming story of the time he rescued an abandoned girl during the devastating Nepal Earthquake. The story on the Humans of Bombay page has already gone viral.

During the earthquake in Nepal Bouncy Mehta who was a volunteer in the relief work, chanced upon an 8 year old girl. The girl approached him running and hugged him and that one act changed her and Mehta’s life. Later upon enquiry he learnt that the girl had no family, her father was a helpless drunk and mother had eloped with another man leaving her alone. The little girl had lost her ability to speak after she hurt her head and had no one to take care. “In the village she was treated like cattle — it broke my heart the most when they said, ‘she doesn’t have a name,” said Bouncy Mehta.

Bouncy Mehta was determined to help the girl having been moved by her story, so after the second earthquake he somehow got in touch with the girl’s uncle and helped her to a Special Education and Rehabilitation Center. He then named her – ‘the girl who changed his life with a smile’ – Anaya. “It’s been a few years since that first day I met her and she’s come a long way. She’s the life of the centre, always laughing, always happy,” said Bouncy Mehta. Milind Soman is on the Cover of the Magazine Just Urbane And Proves Yet Again That Age Is Just A Number!
