Dr Motiur Rahman Khan from Patna in Bihar took coaching classes in 1994 because he was in love. Today he runs coaching centre, Adamya Aditi Gurukul which has produced thousands of students who have become Sub Inspectors, IAS, IPS and IRS officers. And the man charges nothing but a meager amount of Rs 11 from his underprivileged students. Around 1100 students who received his guidance have become successful. The man better known as Guru Rahman is now dedicated to changing the lives of children who are talented but cannot afford education or coaching. His family includes his wife and two children. He married his wife who is a Hindu without family’s consent.
Talking about his family, Better India quoted Rahman as saying, “Amita and I fell in love in college and it was to impress her I topped in M A in Banaras Hindu University. But those times were different. Hindu-Muslim marriage was a big taboo. We got married without the consent of our parents. We were very clear on one thing that none of us is going to change our religion and that was not accepted by the society. Everyone boycotted us and I could not get a job anywhere.”
Rahman has started his classes in a tiny rented room and wanted to an IPS officer like his father. His classes grabbed limelight during 1994 recruitment for 4,000 sub-inspectors in Bihar out of which 1,100 were from Rahman’s classes. Rahman became hugely popular and people from various parts of the state came to learn under his guidance. Yet another incident that displayed Rahman’s giving nature was when he found a brilliant boy who could not pay classes’ fee. Rahman trained the boy and asked him to just pay Rs 11. The student Shadique Alam is currently the District Collector of Nuapada in Odisha. Following which Rahman decided to teach students from underprivileged students for just Rs 11. Rahman holds a triple MA and a PhD in ancient history and culture. Reportedly, he has taught more than 10,000 students out of which 3,000 students have been recruited as sub-inspectors, 60 IPS officers and 5 IAS officers. Students from neighboring states including Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh come in search of his classes.
