A picture of Miss Iraq, Sarah Eedan and Miss Israel, Adar Gandelsman is grabbing eyeballs on the social media. The contestants for Miss Universe 2017 were in Las Vegas when they clicked their selfies together. The women surely would not have imagined the reaction they would gain by posting it on social media. Gandelsman shared a photo with Eedan on Instagram and captioned it, “Get to know, this is Miss Iraq and she’s amazing and has been widely circulated on social media.” The post has gained mixed reactions with internet users commenting varying opinions on the picture. While she shared pictures with other contestants too, this one made garnered the social media’s attention.

Gandelsman serves with the Israel Defense Forces, and according to her Miss Universe website bio, she’s ‘passionate about her duties’ with that military organization. Sarah Idan posted a picture on social media with the caption, “Peace and Love from Miss Iraq and Miss Israel.” While Miss Israel and Miss Iraq are bonding at the competition, back home their countries have always been in political turmoil with each other. Many social media users are of the opinion that at such a time, the women are promotion global harmony, peace and love. The beauty pageant will be held on November 26 at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. However, not everyone showered love on the post. People even addressed the issues between the two Middle Eastern countries and why Miss Iraq was not showing support for Israel with the picture. Miss Eedan (Idan) who grew up in Iraq moved to the United States to study music. In a Facebook post, she wrote how honoured she was to be the first Iraqi woman in 45 years to be representing her country in the competition.
