MMA fighter CJ Hancock died and had to be resuscitated twice when Legacy Fighting Alliance rival Charlie Ontiveros’s brutal kick left him with a kidney failure, but lived to tell the tale. CJ Hancock who was at 216lb or 15 stone had brought his 6 ft frame down to 12 stone for the 171 lb welterweight fight in Texas. CJ Hancock was left unconscious after Charlie Ontiveros’s kick put the 32-year-old veteran on the canvas and was saved by medical staff. CJ Hancock gave a detailed account on his Facebook page about the collapse and his miraculous recovery. On November 4, 2017 he wrote, “Well I died tonight in the cage…. I’m okay. Thanks everyone. I’ll reply when I can. My heart stopped, and I had kidney failure , they did cpr and hit me with the defibrillator twice and brought me back. Still unsure why it happened. I had a hard weight cut. Doc says I shouldn’t fight again…. I’m broken , I guess I’ll just be a coach from now on…. I still plan on competing in Brazilian Jiu jitsu and BJJ superfights , when I get better. Urgent medical attention and the quick thinking staff and rehydration saved the MMA veteran and he is back to a healthier weight. After his recovery he wrote on Facebook, “After 8 bags of saline I’m back up to 206. Feeling much better just got home from the hospital. Feeling a little sick and out of it from the medications.” He added with another post, “A good friend told me it was a miracle coming back from death. And that even though we may not know why yet, there is a reason! #HAPPYTOBEALIVE#THANKGOD Big thanks to all the people that gave me CPR and hit me with the defibrillator!” Check out his posts below.
