If you are a space lover and enjoy watching the stars, then get ready for September 7. A Blood Moon, or total lunar eclipse, will take place on this day. As the moon glides slowly into the shadow of the Earth, it will transform into a glowing red color across the night sky.

When will the Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse take place in 2025?

September 7, 2025 – On this night, a marvelous and mysterious celestial event, “Blood Moon” (Lunar Eclipse) will take place. This year’s total lunar eclipse will be one of the most widely seen and spectacular eclipses of the decade.

What is a Blood Moon, and why does it happen?

A total lunar eclipse is when the Earth’s shadow completely covers the Moon’s surface. Although sunlight still reaches the moon, it first passes through the Earth’s atmosphere, which filters and bends the light. Because the Earth’s atmosphere scatters the shorter wavelengths, only red hues can fall on the Moon, allowing it to take on that color dramatically.

When sunlight reaches the atmosphere of Earth, the light scatters. Shorter wavelengths, like blue, scatter more than longer wavelengths like red. Red bends and continues when it reaches the Moon. And that is the reason a total lunar eclipse causes the moon to shine red or orange. This gives way to the term “Blood Moon.”

Which parts of India can witness the rare celestial event?

This year, the Blood Moon will be seen in several cities in India. According to the media reports, the lunar eclipse will start on September 7, 2025, at 8:58 PM and end at 1:25 AM on September 8.
