Morphed photo of UP CM Yogi Adityanath lands Mumbai youth in jail

A youth was arrested from Ghatkopar area of Mumbai on Sunday for allegedly posting a morphed image of new Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath on Facebook.

There have been various instances in the past when social media got people into trouble. People expressing their opinion against a political party or a person have also resulted in various problems in the past. Even discussions or sharing personal opinion on political individuals on social media websites have resulted in legal issues. A 19-year-old was arrested from Ghatkopar area of Mumbai on Sunday for allegedly posting a morphed image of new Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath on Facebook. The image was a warrior king with the face of Adityanath. It was locals in Kamraj Nagar in Ghatkopar East who noticed the image and alerted members of the Sambhaji Brigade, who demand reservation for the Maratha community. Following the incident, members of the organisation reached the youth’s house and asked him to apologise. Scared by the reaction of the people, Rinku Gupta immediately apologised and deleted the posted.

Indian Express quoted a senior official as saying, “Members of the Sambhaji Brigade went to the home of the accused on Sunday, who immediately apologised and deleted the post. However, they insisted that he should face legal action and brought him to the police station.” According to the people of the organisation, Rinku had hurt the feelings of a community and was hence placed under arrest. A morphed picture of a place of worship in Trombay posted a 20-year-old had earlier invoked protests. It had turned violent with people protesting outside Trombay police station after which personnel had to resort to firing plastic bullets to disperse the mob. No VIP culture, no slaughter houses; 10 decisions taken by chief minister Yogi Adityanath within 48 hours 

A police vehicle was burnt in the incident. “Keeping that incident in mind, we immediately registered an offense and took the accused into custody before matters could get out hand and word of the incident could spread,” said a senior officer. In 2012, two girls in Thane district, Mumbai were arrested for writing a Facebook post against the politician, Bal Thackeray.
