In 2019, a very special piece of jewelry became the talk of the town when business tycoon Mukesh Ambani’s wife, Nita Ambani, gifted it as a wedding present to her daughter‑in‑law, Shloka Mehta. This wasn’t just any necklace, but one of the most expensive in the world, which captured the public’s imagination because of its rarity, beauty, and sheer value. The necklace is called Mouawad L’Incomparable, crafted by the renowned Lebanese jeweler Mouawad. Surrounding this striking yellow gem are 91 white diamonds, totaling about 229.52 carats, set in rose‑gold branchlets (18‑kt) that elegantly weave the design together, which costs US$55 million (about Rs 451 crore).
The Mouawad L’Incomparable also holds a place in the Guinness World Records as the world’s most valuable necklace. It was publicly displayed at the Doha Jewellery & Watch Exhibition in 2013. The craftsmanship is such that its design and especially the cut of its centre yellow diamond is said to be impossible to replicate exactly. It was discovered decades ago in the Congo, reportedly found among discarded mining rubble. Its transformation into a flawless, internally perfect gem adds to its legendary status.
